The firm of Copeland Linens Ltd. was started in 1957 by a family firm H.M. Smyth & Co. Ltd. established in 1928.

H.M. Smyth in the 50's manufactured linen cloths for hand embroidery to the wholesale trade only. They were finding that trade was shrinking quickly to the wholesale and decided that they would try traced linens to ladies in their homes by mail-order.

It proved to be a great success especially with regard to prices.

They produced a Needlework Catalogue annually and have expanded their range quite substantially. Recently they became distributors for the famous Deighton Iron-on Transfers and offer a separate catalogue of their designs.

Laterally they have majored in linen Church cloths, supplying Altar Cloths etc. direct to Churches worldwide, again by mail order.
